Novelty Bag Collection ♡ Collection Series #8

Those of you who are particularly interested in my Collection Series may remember that I already did a purse and bag collection post back in December, but it was awful and needed to be redone.

The photos were atrocious, and most of the bags themselves were either ugly or boring, so today I am just going to show you my novelty bags as they are my favourite, most used pieces. Plus, today is World Fashion Day, so it's the perfect time to share this collection with you!

Admittedly, this collection actually started because I stumbled across the owl and fox bags -pictured above - at Kmart for $9 and just couldn't resist purchasing them. I soon fell in love with them after realising how much easier it was to take crossbody bags with me everywhere instead of ridiculously big bags like I usually did!

I also discovered people like Mermaidens and Studio Mucci on Instagram and fell in love with their pastel, feminine, and novelty style choices, which only fuelled my want for more crossbody bags. I absolutely love the bags I own, seeing them hanging in my closet always brings a smile to my face - and there's still heaps more out there that I am dying to purchase!

The mermaid shell bag and the popcorn bag are both also from Kmart, and I mentioned in my first bag collection post that the unicorn bag was an accidental purchase from DollSkill - I was just trying to see how much shipping was, and didn't realise that "continue" meant "pay now", causing me to spend $60+ on a bag I've never used (because it was expensive and I don't want to ruin it!).

Not that this should be a surprise to anyone, but the bags that are shaped like food are definitely my favourite. A donut shaped crossbody bag is my dream bag, but I've also seen cute hamburger and watermelon shaped bags that I'd love.

The rest of my bags are all from eBay. The black and white cat bags are based off Luna and Artemis from Sailor Moon. Even though they're slightly bigger and bulkier to carry around, I love them because they fit both my digital camera and my Polaroid camera inside, whilst still having the convenience of being a crossbody bag.

For me, going out with a crossbody bag makes all the different to how I feel throughout the day. It's certainly no secret that I am quite a nervous, paranoid person, so I am always convinced someone is going to take my bag. Bags with straps that are only long enough to sit on one shoulder make me extra worried since they slip off a lot, and someone could easily pull it off my shoulder before I have a chance to react.

Crossbody bags do exactly what their name suggests: they go across your body. The strap goes over your head and sits on the opposite shoulder to where the bag sits at your hips, meaning that the strap won't slide down - and that if someone were to tug at it, it would get hooked on your neck and wouldn't go anywhere. This may seem silly to a lot of people, but I know those with anxiety will understand.

These bags are all quite small - as they are meant to be - so they usually can't fit a book inside them which can be a bummer, but they do fit phones, keys, card holders, and other small items perfectly. They are great for quick trips to the shop, or even day trips if you're going somewhere where you don't need a book or camera (let's be real though, I need both those things quite often).

They also help dress up an outfit when you don't feel like putting much effort in. I am a huge fan of statement pieces; I love wearing bold lipstick to distract from my otherwise minimal make-up, or big necklaces for when I am feeling particularly fancy, but my go-to is always a bold and bright bag. I know these pieces wouldn't exactly be considered 'elegant', but they make me happy, and I love it when people tell me how cute my bag is, so I am going to continue using them.
